Roots

As a young girl, I spent many afternoons on our yellow bathmat combining spices, leaves, bark, and flowers in mixing bowls. Inspired by my mother’s face masks and creams, as well as the ancient beauty rituals of women who came before me, I learned early that the right combination of plants and intention could create something more potent than any single ingredient alone.

In college, that curiosity became personal. Severe acne led me deeper into Ayurveda and traditional medicine, searching for what conventional treatments never gave me.

After months of experimentation, a homemade jojoba oil blend and chickpea-turmeric scrub began to consistently clear my skin. I knew I needed to learn more.

Immersion

I spent the next decade immersed in herbalism, permaculture, and nutrition, including two years interning with an herbalist. We gathered and dried plants, made salves and teas, and studied not only what each herb did, but how it grew, where it came from, and how it related to the world around it.

It became a way of understanding myself, too—as part of nature, attuned to its seasons, cycles, and rhythms. A remembering.

Making

Years of study eventually led me to a single formula, refined over two years and crafted in rhythm with the moon. That formula became New Moon Oil, the first offering from Coven Botanica.

Each plant carries more than its compounds. It carries its history, its land, and the generations of people who have worked with it. Brought together, they become something that no single plant could be on its own.

We, too, are shaped by place, memory, tradition, and community. The name Coven comes from the Latin convenire: to come together. To gather. To belong in relationship with one another.
